Yang Zi

Yang Zi is an independent curator and researcher based in Beijing. He was curator and head of public programs at UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, and before that an editor at LEAP. In 2020 he received the M+ Sigg Fellowship for Chinese Art Research.

He has curated exhibitions for Gagosian Hong Kong, Taikang Art Museum and Long Museum, and in 2025 the opening exhibition of YDP in London. His research looks at how folk religion shaped Chinese avant-garde art of the 1980s and 1990s, and at classical Chinese motifs seen through contemporary art. He studied philosophy and religious studies at Nanjing University.
