Trung Mai

Trung Mai is an architect based in Hanoi and the founder of Ad hoc practice and Hanoi Ad Hoc, a platform for research and making that looks at post-industrial sites, social and climate adaptation, and the history held in buildings. He studied at ENSA Paris-Malaquais and Leibniz Universität Hannover, and worked at Atelier Jean Nouvel.

With VAC he made The Grid (2023), which turned part of Hanoi’s Gia Lâm train factory into an exhibition space, and The Reincarnated Grid, shown in Intelligens at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale, where the first issue of our Journal launched. His projects have won Europan awards in France, Italy and Spain; he received a Prince Claus Fund Seed Award in 2024, and Hanoi Ad Hoc’s film Khu Tập Thể was made with the support of Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin.
