Maya Kramer

Maya Kramer is an artist and Assistant Arts Professor of Visual Arts at NYU Shanghai, and has lived and worked in Shanghai since 2010. Her sculptures, paintings and installations use ice, coal, rust, fossils and weather to look at time, entropy and our idea of nature in the Anthropocene.

Since the Arctic Circle Residency in Svalbard in 2023 she has been making rock books and fjord paintings that set deep time against the climate emergency, shown in her solo exhibition In the Time It Takes at Capsule Shanghai in 2026. Earlier she worked in the curatorial department of the Guggenheim.
